Property Finder

Senator McCain need no longer be confused about the number of houses he owns.

Aside from the inevitable, and understandable, hay being made out of the Senator’s gaffe —which may have been an outright gaffe or may have been the result of an honest attempt to differentiate between kinds of properties and purposes of ownership— I’m not exactly sure what the point is.

Similar attention was paid to Senator Kerry’s multi-house lifestyle (acquired, incidentally, in the same way as Senator McCain’s) but that only had an impact because it confirmed the general impression of him as a snob.

And whether these are useful waters for the Obama campaign to be roiling is debatable.  It didn’t take long for a McCain spokesman to respond:

“Does a guy who made more than $4 million last year, just got back from vacation on a private beach in Hawaii and bought his own million-dollar mansion with the help of a convicted felon really want to get into a debate about houses?”
