In The Arena

September 1, 2008 by Frank Gannon | Filed Under American Politics, Election 2008

Politico’s “Arena” invited more than a hundred “notables” to comment on the choice of Governor Palin as Veep nominee.  My favorite is from “veteran Washington adviser to presidents and former ambassador” Tom C. Korologos — who is not only notable, but estimable, formidable, and venerable:

My reaction: Mother of five, moose hunter, NRA life member, husband belongs to a union, wears skirts, God-fearing new-generation pro-life woman, 80 percent governor approval rating and most conservative candidate on any ticket since Ronald Reagan. I hope McCain isn’t a drag on the ticket.

In this election, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) needs to retain the Republican base if he is serious about winning the US presidency. And that includes GOP grassroots organizations like the National Rifle Association, the National Taxpayers’ Union, and the Christian Right. Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s presence on the ticket is going to get Republican regulars out on Election day and vote for the party.

Got something to say?
