Colombia is Preparing for President Obama

October 23, 2008 by Jonathan Movroydis | Filed Under Election 2008, International Affairs

In the Wall Street Journal Monday, Mary Anastasia O’Grady indicated that Sen. Obama misstated that leftist labor leaders didn’t have adequate security guarantees in defense of his opposition to a free trade agreement with the U.S.’s staunch South American ally. Apparently Colombian Pres. Uribe is preparing to tell a Pres. Obama the same thing:

Uribe said Monday that he plans to tell Sen. Obama – “when he is president of the United States” – that unions in Colombia face fewer restrictions than the Democratic presidential nominee might think.

Colombia’s judicial workers have been on strike for 50 days.

Obama cites violence against unionists – 31 have been killed so far this year – in opposing a free trade agreement with Colombia.
