“Ha” On Ron Howard

November 8, 2008 by John H. Taylor | Filed Under Frost/Nixon, Richard Nixon, Vietnam

The news flash is that “Frost/Nixon” director Ron Howard thinks he voted for President Nixon in 1972. At the same time, we learn either that he was an impatient voter or that he, New York Times interviewer Deborah Solomon, and the Times copy desk are all a little confused:

Did you vote for Nixon in 1972?
I did turn 18 that year. Richard Dreyfuss, when we were doing “American Graffiti,” was pumping me to vote for McGovern. But I think I wound up going for Nixon. I thought he could get us out of the Vietnam War quickly. Ha.

President Nixon was reelected in November 1972. The Paris Peace Accords were signed in January 1973. Not quick enough for Ron Howard?
